Syntonics, also known as optometric phototherapy, is a specialized form of therapy that uses specific light frequencies to stimulate the visual system and improve visual processing. It is used to treat a variety of vision disorders including strabismus (eye turn in or out), amblyopia (lazy eye), accommodative dysfunction (eye focusing difficulties), and convergence insufficiency.
Patients with constricted “functional” visual fields may experience symptoms such as eye strain, poor focusing, trouble with reading, a high frequency of headaches, and many more. Syntonics therapy works to expand this functional visual field to reduce these symptoms and improve visual function.

The Home PhotoTherapy unit (HPT) allows patients to undergo syntonics therapy in the comfort of their own home as opposed to a clinical setting. Based on the results of a series of evaluations that tests for visual skills and functional visual field, one or more specific colors will be prescribed for home therapy. Syntonics therapy can be used as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with office-based vision therapy to help treat specific visual symptoms.
