Dry Eye Treatment

What is Dry Eye Syndrome?

Dry Eye Syndrome (DES), also known as Ocular Surface Disease (OSD), is the most common eye disorder, affecting about 20% of the population.

It is caused when one or all of the components of the tear film are not in balance. Clogged oil glands along both upper and lower lid margins contribute to 86% of ocular surface disease progression (OSD) and dry eye.

Poor lacrimal gland function further reduces the production of our “emergency eye wash tears.” Damage to our goblet cells that reside in the tissue near our beautiful iris can reduce the output of our mucous tears which help to nourish and protect our precious sight. Understanding the complex makeup of our tears is important in devising a proper treatment approach to solving OSD.

We have cutting edge diagnostic and treatment technology to assess and manage every level of OSD/ dry eye.

The most common symptoms of include:

  • Redness

  • Irritation

  • Scratchiness

  • Burning

  • Watery Eyes

Causes & Triggers - What are the Risk Factors?

Dry Eyes can develop for many reasons, including:

  • Age (a majority of people 40 and higher experience symptoms of dry eyes)

  • Gender (women are more likely to develop dry eyes due to hormonal changes caused by pregnancy, the use of contraceptives, and menopause)

  • Medications (i.e., antihistamines, decongestants, blood pressure medications, and antidepressants can reduce tear production)

  • Environmental conditions (i.e., exposure to screen time, smoke, wind, and dry climates can increase tear evaporation and failure to blink regularly can also contribute to drying of the eyes)

  • Medical conditions (i.e., rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and thyroid problems are more likely to have symptoms of dry eyes)

  • Long-term use of contact lenses

  • Refractive eye surgeries, such as LASIK, can decrease tear production

How is Dry Eye Treated?

We start with a full eye examination and carefully examine the ocular surface with specific diagnostic equipment to determine which areas of the tear film are in distress. Our doctors will then formulate an initial treatment plan which may include:

  • Lid margin hygiene to encourage better oil gland production

  • Discussion of supplements that may be beneficial

  • Possible prescription eye drop medication

  • TempSure™ Envi procedures to revitalize the oil glands along the lid margins

  • Amniotic membrane technology

  • Scleral lenses

  • Or a combination of some of these strategies

Dry Eye

TempSure Envi works below the surface to restore the natural flow of tears.

Millions of Americans are affected every year by Dry Eye Syndrome; especially in the winter months.

TempSure Envi can help keep your eyes healthy and comfortable through these drier months, while also giving your skin a boost to improve the appearance of wrinkles, tighten your skin, and provide a healthier complexion.

  • You suffer from Dry Eye Syndrome, especially in the winter months.

  • You've tried countless at-home Dry Eye treatments that bring no long-term relief.

  • Wrinkles or loose skin stop you from feeling your best.

If you’re finally ready for a dry eye solution that won’t disappoint, then TempSure Envi is right for you!

TempSure Envi for Dry Eyes

TempSure Envi radio frequency treats dry eye by stimulating clogged tear glands. The oil producing tear glands reside along the upper and lower eyelids. These glands become blocked over time and lose their ability to produce the rich oil layer of the tear film.

When this happens the eyes start to feel dry, irritated, burning and red especially upon waking. Over time these plugged glands can lead to atrophy (death of the glands), lid laxity and ocular surface disease and dry eye. As this condition worsens it can impact the ability to see clearly.

This non-invasive treatment utilizes radio frequency technology to safely and effectively treat dry eyes and dermatochalasis (droopy eyelids) for a healthier-looking appearance. Best of all, there is no surgery or down time!

TempSure Envi can treat the eye area, face, neck, chest, upper arms, knees or anywhere on the body with loose or thinning skin. It’s typically performed as a series of treatments scheduled 2–4 weeks apart.

Additional Key Benefits of TempSure Envi:

  • Improved skin tone: The RF energy helps stimulate collagen production, resulting in tighter, and more even skin

  • Firmer, more lifted skin: The device’s heat contracts and firms the skin, resulting in reduced wrinkles and fine lines for a more youthful look

  • Increased skin hydration: TempSure Envi encourages blood flow and oxygenation in the skin, resulting in a fuller, healthier look

What to Expect Before & After Your TempSure Envi Treatment

Your TempSure Envi treatment begins with a gel being applied to the skin. Next, your provider uses the handpiece to massage the skin in small circles. You’ll experience an increasing warming sensation as treatment goes on, but the procedure is completely painless; many people compare it to a hot stone massage. The entire appointment will take 30–60 minutes, depending on the size and number of treatment areas.

A TempSure treatment involves no recovery time; you can immediately return to all your usual activities and apply moisturizers or makeup if desired. The procedure does not cause sensitivity to light, but it’s recommended to wear SPF and reduce sun exposure to prevent future damage.

Some patients experience slight redness; should this occur, avoid contacting the skin with hot water until it resolves.

Immediately after treatment, you’ll notice a reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; this effect is temporary and caused by mild swelling from the procedure. Seven to ten days after your session, your skill will start building new collagen and elastin. After a month, you’ll see a decrease in fine lines and wrinkles and feel that your skin is tighter and firmer.

After a series of treatments, you will feel an improvement to your ocular surface. Your discomfort and symptoms from dry eyes will gradually dissipate.
